Rashid Askari’s stories are a fine example of style and originality. They are possessed of the essential makings of good short fiction. Witty, racy and out of the ordinary, they contain surprisingly serious undertones. Picking real-life events from the remotest areas of the country and weaving them into various fictional forms are the hallmarks of his storytelling. the perplexing vagaries of the metropolitan life, however, do not escape his attention. His sure direction efficiently captures the subtle nuances of human behavior. The overall tone of his language is genuine sarcastic, although one feels genuine compassion for the characters he depicts.
